Cityscape: Tokyo Kart Tour
Pre-Covid, I couldn’t wait for the “Mari kart” experience on my trip to Tokyo, Japan. Before leaving the US, I stopped at Triple A to obtain an international driving license. I made my way across the city by train. Up on arriving at the go-kart depot, after a fairly extensive training session and safety video, we were invited to wear a costume for the ride; because “costumes equal funny”.We were told that helmets were optional for the ride with the waiver. This sounded like risky business but the entire group, myself including myself, signed the waiver on the dotted line.
I chose the panda suit and jumped in. We literally drove around sightseeing in the middle of rush hour traffic. Our guide took photos of us at red lights, prompting us to smile! On open stretches of road, we hit speeds of 50 plus kilometers per hour, Sandwiched between buses, luxury cars and taxis, we zipped around town and the pedestrians waved at as if we were in a parade. The hour went by quick and we stopped along the way to see several landmarks and grab a snack. The tour was a blast. Oh what fun it is to see the Tokyo cityscape from a go-kart!
